HUMAS USU - The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continues to strive to improve the reputation and visibility of researchers in the international arena according to the USU Strategic Plan, to become a world-class university (World Class University) through improving Academic Reputation indicators and the International Research Network. The efforts to contribute to the IKU 3, among others, were carried out by Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut, M.Si, Ph.D, a lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara. He is one of 29 selected international scientists who will become the 2022/2023 Mentors in July 2022.

Prof. Basyuni has previously been involved in several collaborative initiatives with scientists from various countries, including the e-Asia JRP in 2021 and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science Core to Core 2020-2023.

The mentors from the program entitled Science Leadership Collaborative come from various countries, from Japan, the United States, Indonesia, France, India, to Australia. They are affiliated with a number of globally reputable institutions such as AstraZeneca, Gadjah Mada University, Anjani Mashelkar Foundation, Bandung Institute of Technology, and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

These international scientists from various fields of study and expertise will mentor Indonesian researchers for the next nine months, starting from July 2022 to March 2023. This mentoring program is provided in order to support Indonesian researchers to become world-class science leaders in the future, including to Indonesia Gold 2045.

Prof. Basyuni said he was very happy because he was able to contribute to USU's IKU 3 as a Science Leadership Collaborative mentor for 9 months. He hopes that more USU lecturers will get this opportunity.

USU lecturer who teaches Forestry Biotechnology (S1 Forestry), Tree Breeding (S1 Forestry), Forest Genetics (S1), Plant Cellular Physiology (S1), Secondary Metabolism (S3 Agriculture), Plant Genetic Engineering (S3/S2 Agriculture) and Plant Molecular Biology (S3 Agriculture), was once named as one of the researchers included in the Top 100 Scientist and University Agriculture in Indonesia Rankings 2022 version of the AD Scientific Index.

Of course, this award is not the only award that the man born in Sidoarjo, April 21, 1973 received. In 2020, he once recorded a hat-trick of awards, namely winning the World Class Professor Award 2020 Scheme B from the Ministry of Education and Culture, winning the Universitas Sumatera Utara Best Researcher 1 award in the year and JSPS Core to Core 2020-2023 from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Meanwhile, in 2021 yesterday, Prof. Basyuni was awarded The Selected Projects of The eASIA Joint Research Program from the eASIA Joint Research Program. (RJ). (©ULC)
