USU Holds MKWK Public Lecture: Shape BINTANG Generation

USU PR - The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a General Lecture on Mandatory Curriculum Subjects (MKWK) for new students for the 2024/2025 academic year, entitled “Mata Kuliah Wajib Kurikulum Berkarakter BINTANG USU Menggerakkan Kebersamaan Agar Bermakna Bagi Sumatera Utara.” It took place online through the Zoom Meeting on Monday-Tuesday (23-24/09/2024).
In his remarks, USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si, said that the theme raised was very relevant to provide students with a deep understanding of the importance of TALENTA BINTANG. This is the foundation for USU to realize its vision and mission in accordance with the USU Strategic Plan 2020-2024 and the USU Long Term Plan (RJP) 2015-2039.

Furthermore, the USU Rector explained that the USU BINTANG value system is an acronym for Worshipping God Almighty, Innovative and integrity, and Tough and wise. These values are expected to be instilled in every USU student to form a superior generation, not only in terms of academics, but also character.
The USU Rector also appreciated the presence of resource persons who were ready to share knowledge and experience with students. He hopes that through this activity, students can broaden their horizons and dig deeper into material that is relevant to everyday life and future challenges.
“To the lecturers and teachers, I would like to express my highest appreciation for their dedication and commitment to assisting students,” said Prof. Muryanto.
Head of UPT PP Lida and USU Integrated Laboratory as well as Organizer of MKWK USU Public Lecture FY. 2024, Prof. Dr. Timbangen Sembiring, M.Sc. explained that MKWK learning, which includes material on Religion, National Insight, and Local Wisdom, plays an important role in developing students' insights.
Prof. Dr. Timbangen Sembiring, M.Sc., hopes that through this course, students will be able to understand and appreciate the basic values inherent in the diverse cultures, religions, and traditions of Indonesian society.
“MKWK not only teaches science but also hones critical thinking skills, instills ethics, and strengthens understanding of Pancasila, citizenship, religion, and Indonesian culture,” said Prof. Timbangen.
