Education Costs for Diploma and Undergraduate Programs
UKT, or Single Tuition Fee, is a payment system applied in all State Universities (PTN) in Indonesia. Based on the Rector's Decision of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Number /UN5.1.R/SK/KEU/2024 concerning the Determination of the Tariff for Single Tuition Fees (UKT) and Institutional Development Fees (IPI) for New Students of Bachelor and Diploma Programs through the National Selection Path Based on Achievement, National Selection Based on Tests and Independent Selection within the Universitas Sumatera Utara, the amount of UKT is determined based on the student's economic ability, so that each student pays tuition fees per semester according to their ability and financial condition.
IPI or Institutional Development Fee is a fee charged to students as a contribution to developing higher education institutions. IPI is a community fund receipt for State Universities-Legal Entities (PTN-BH) and non-tax state receipts for State Universities other than PTN-BH. IPI is only intended for new students through the independent path.

Education Costs for Specialist, Professional, and Postgraduate Programs
The education costs for Specialist, Professional, and Postgraduate programs at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) vary depending on the selected study program. Each program has a different fee structure, which includes Academic Completeness Funds (DKA), Educational Development Contributions (SPP), and other fees related to academic facilities and services. The amount of this fee is determined based on the policy of the Rector's Decision of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Number 1610/UN5.1.R/SK/KEU/2022 Concerning Education Costs for Professional Education Programs, Specialists and Postgraduate Programs (Master's and Doctoral) at Universitas Sumatera Utara Academic Year 2022/2023, and considering various factors, including the level of difficulty and operational needs of each program.

In determining UKT and IPI, the Universitas Sumatera Utara refers to:
- Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology and Education Number 2 of 2024 concerning Standard Unit Operational Costs for Higher Education at State Universities within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology; and
- Letter from the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology number 0511/E/PR.07.04/2024 dated May 27, 2024 regarding Cancellation of UKT and IPI Increase for Academic Year 2024/2025.
