The Undergraduate Program in Malay Literature of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is one of the rare literature departments in the Faculty of Cultural Science. This program has succeeded in producing outstanding students and turning them into recognized experts in Malay literature throughout Indonesia and even internationally. This program's main focus is the teaching of Malay language, literature, and culture, as well as related fields such as documentation, archives, and the collection of Malay manuscripts. Supported by lecturers who are experts in Malay literature with national teaching certifications and the use of an integrated curriculum, we are committed to providing our students with an interactive education and learning experience. Our expectation is for students to be able to apply the theories and techniques of Malay language, literature, and culture and to be able to produce academic and creative writing related to these fields.
Many career opportunities are open to graduates of Malay Literature, such as becoming journalists, socio-cultural researchers, tour guides, and working in travel agencies. In addition, our graduates also have the potential for a career at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia.
