USU PR- The Faculty of Vocation of Universitas Sumatera Utara(USU) held a workshop entitled 'Calibration of D-III Metrology and Instrumentation to Seize Opportunities and Challenges in Fulfilling the Regional Metrology Human Resources' on Tuesday (11/10/2023) at the USU Faculty of Vocation Hall.
The event commenced with opening remarks from the Director of the Education Development Directorate at USU, Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, S.T., MM.IT., and the Dean of the Faculty of Vocation, Prof. Dr. Isfenti Sadalia, S.E., M.E.
The activities continued with presentations from three keynote speakers, including the Director of Metrology Directorate at the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Sri Astuti S. Si., M. S. E; the Head of the Organization and Human Resources Bureau at the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Rusmin Amin, S.Si., M.T; and the Director of the Academy of Metrology and Instrumentation at the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Vera Firmansyah, S.Si., M.Si.
Sri Astuti S. Si., M. S. E; expressed high appreciation for the efforts of the USU leadership in establishing the metrology and instrumentation study program. Emphasizing the concept of vocational education that focuses on readiness for application and employment, it is hoped that this will enhance the output of graduates, which is highly demanded in the metrology and instrumentation industry.

In his presentation on the importance of overcoming future challenges related to human resources, Dr. Rusmin Amin, S.Si., M.T., emphasized the steps in facing challenges to address human resource issues in trade with planned and strategic solutions. One of the steps that can be taken is to sharpen soft skills.
"Thus, colleagues in metrology and instrumentation at USU are here to fill the gap. And in my view, from a skills perspective, the vocation friends at USU can make use of it," explained Dr. Rusmin.
Vera Firmansyah, S.Si., M.Si., revealed plans to continue following the development of this collaboration, which began with curriculum alignment. Then, the focus will be on preparing prospective students who will undergo internships with certifications provided by the Metrology Training Center and Multi-Service Trade (BPMJP) online.
"From the presentation earlier, there are two additional topics that we can provide and certifications that we can offer. These steps demonstrate the seriousness of improving the quality of education and skills of students in the field of metrology and instrumentation," explained Vera.
