USU PR - Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) again held the Inauguration of the Ir. Erwin Nasution, having previously inaugurated the Tractor Monument and the Laboratory of Biology and Aquaculture. The inauguration which was held on Friday (4/1/2022) was attended by the Mayor of Medan, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, S.E., M.M.

USU Rector Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si explained that the naming was intended to commemorate the services and contributions of Ir. Erwin Nasution during his lifetime to FP USU, especially this building was the initiation of Ir. Erwin Nasution when he was the Chair of the USU FP Alumni.

“This building is dedicated to the late Ir. Erwin Nasution, who is an alumni of the USU Faculty of Agriculture, the father of the Mayor of Medan," the Rector said.

The existence of this building is expected to fulfill and support all lecture activities at the USU Faculty of Agriculture, where on the second floor of the Ir. Erwin Nasution will be used as a lecture hall. Meanwhile, on the first floor, it will function as a postgraduate student administration center and a study program head room.

The Rector added that this infrastructure improvement will also continue to be carried out in other faculties. Later, it is planned that a competition will be held for architecture students to design facades with the characteristics of each faculty at USU.

"For the next four years, we will continue to pay attention to this. I have conveyed to Architecture, we will repair the front facade, we will hold a competition for students to make facades so that USU has an identity," he said.

In addition, Dr. Muryanto also said that the Dr. Mansyur will be used as a business area. The academic environment area that is supported by modern comfort is expected to stimulate economic growth in the city of Medan.

On that occasion, the Mayor of Medan expressed his appreciation to USU for having given an award to Ir. Erwin Nasution.

"I express my gratitude for the appreciation given to our father, hopefully this building can be useful for students," he said.

The Medan city government will also cooperate with USU, both in the realm of education and community service.

"USU is also responsible for educating and fostering the people of Medan City, we collaborate a lot with USU," said Bobby.

Dean of USU Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, MS., also expressed his hope that this new college building can be maximized according to its designation.

"Increasing the enthusiasm of the academic community of the USU Faculty of Agriculture in carrying out their daily tri dharma duties," Dr. Tavi concluded.(©ULC)
