USU PR - Researchers from The Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pulau Pinang and UiTM Perlis, Malaysia, led by Dr. Azila Azmi visited the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Monday (13/3/2023), which was received directly by the USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si. The Rector welcomed the arrival of the UiTM team and hoped to expand and strengthen international cooperation within the scope of tridharma with other faculties within USU.

The USU Doctoral Program in Law has taken the initiative to conduct international research cooperation related to tourism law with several researchers at UiTM Pulau Pinang and UiTM Perlis. The USU research team led by Prof. Dr. Ningrum Natasya Sirait, SH, M.Li, visited UiTM in February 2023 as an effort to expand international partnerships. The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia, agreed to work together in the field of tridharma development which is the three pillars of higher education as stated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 11, 2022.
 

After meeting the USU Rector, the UiTM team consisting of Dr. Azila Azmi (UiTM Pulau Pinang), Dr. Azrul Abdullah (UiTM Perlis), Dr. Suria Sulaiman UiTM Pulau Pinang) Angayar Kanni (UiTM Pulau Pinang), Saiful Bahri Mohd. Kamal (UiTM Pulau Pinang) and Norshamshina Mat Isa (UiTM Perlis), also visited the Doctoral Program in Law. The visit was to conduct a focus group discussion with the Head of the USU Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani and a networking session with several other faculty representatives. The UiTM visit on March 13-17, 2023 will focus on collaborative field research in Samosir, to develop a new legal framework for community-based tourism: the case of Halal Tourism.

This research collaboration related to tourism law between the USU and UiTM Doctor of Law Program is expected to be included in a multiyear collaboration and will involve the local government around Lake Toba.

At the meeting with UiTM Penang and Perlis, USU and UiTM cooperation in the field of Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi has narrowed down in the field of tourism. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between UiTM and the Faculty of Law has been signed and the Implementation Arrangement (IA) of research cooperation has been agreed between USU's S3 Law Study Program which will develop Toba caldera geopark tourism and UiTM Penang which develops heritage tourism. Currently, the Universitas Sumatera Utara is hosting the IMT-GT meeting on tourism.

The research cooperation chaired by Prof. Dr. Ningrum Natasya Sirait, SH, M.Li, consists of Dr / Rosmalinda, SH, LL.M, Dr. Robert, SH, MH, Cheryl Patriana Yuswar, SH, LL.M, M. Hadyan Yunhas Purba, S.H., M.H and Lesly Saviera, SH, MH.

Also attending the meeting were Prof. Robert Sibarani ( Head of the USU Research Institute), Dr. Mahmul Siregar, SH, M.Hum (Dean of the USU Faculty of Law), Arif Nuryawan, Ph.D (Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships), Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, SH, M.Hum.
