USU PUBLIC RELATIONS — The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) welcomed a visit from the USU Academic Senate on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). The meeting discussed various aspects of FKG USU’s development, including curriculum, publications, student achievements, and human resources.

During the meeting, Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Gema Nazri Yanti, M.Kes., highlighted several areas of concern following input from the Academic Senate. One of these was the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, which still requires adjustments in several study programs.

“We received a lot of input, particularly regarding the OBE curriculum, which is still somewhat challenging to implement. Although, on paper, we have implemented the OBE curriculum and the process is ongoing,” she said.

She also explained that FKG USU is currently preparing to implement Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). In addition, students’ innovations and publications are expected to serve as a form of recognition for their final projects.

“We also discussed Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL, which we are currently preparing for international students, including Chinese students who are expected to undergo RPL from the D4 program to bachelor’s and master’s programs at FKG USU next year,” she explained.

Furthermore, Dr. drg. Gema Nazri Yanti stated that the number of students graduating on time is also an area of concern for FKG USU. According to her, further efforts are needed to ensure that more students are able to complete their studies within the stipulated timeframe.

“We need to determine the strategies and approaches that can help us achieve a 100 percent on-time graduation rate among our students in the future,” she said.

Dr. drg. Gema Nazri Yanti, M.Kes., also stated that the Academic Senate’s visit provided FKG USU with an opportunity to discuss various matters and receive input on areas requiring further improvement.

“We are very pleased because we had the opportunity to share and discuss with the senators and receive their input on how we can help students graduate on time, increase the number of publications, and further improve the journals published by FKG itself,” she said.
