USU PUI Mangrove Held ICONART 2022

The Center for Excellence in Mangrove Science and Technology (PUI Mangrove) Universitas Sumatera Utara in collaboration with the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, the JSPS Core to Core Program 2022, and the e-ASIA Joint Research Program successfully held the international seminar 4th International Conference on Natural Resources and Technology (ICONART) 2022. The seminar will take place in a hybrid manner at Hotel Grandhika Medan and zoom meeting on 29-30 August 2022.
The 4th ICONART Conference in 2022 has been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology as the 2022 funded conference. Likewise, PUI Mangrove has been officially accepted and recognized as the new PUI-PT in 2022.
In an online conference which was officially opened by the Rector of USU, Dr Muryanto Amin, S.Si, M.Si, he brought in keynote speakers from 5 countries. In his remarks, the Rector stated that the fourth ICONART 2022 is very much in line with USU's vision as an international standard university characterized by local excellence. This conference also supports the tagline of the Universitas Sumatera Utara: Transformation Toward Ultimate. This tagline is related to USU's internationalization towards World Class University. This vision is implemented through teaching, research, and community service and is integrated into excellence in TALENT.
The Chairperson of the ICONART 2022 Committee, Prof Mohammad Basyuni, said that the committee had received 141 papers from several countries such as the Philippines, India, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, and Indonesia. Papers will be selected for publication in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science. In the morning plenary session, two keynote speakers, Prof. Dr. Tadashi Kajita (University of the Ryukyus, Japan) came online and Dr Sigit D. Sasmito (National University of Singapore, Singapore) came in person from Singapore. Prof. Kajita delivered material on International Research to Study Diversity of Fish and Macrobenthos in Mangrove Ecosystems by eDNA Metabarcoding. Dr Sigit delivered material on mangrove conservation and restoration to meet Indonesia's climate action targets.
In the afternoon plenary session, three keynote speakers were Lubos Kristak, Ph.D from the University of Zloven, Slovakia, Prof. Petar Antove from the University of Forestry Sofia-Bulgaria and Arif Nuryawan, Ph.D from the Universitas Sumatera Utara Indonesia. Offline and online participants remained eager to listen and actively involved in the discussion. Exactly at 17:30 the 4th ICONART 2022 conference was officially closed by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Rudi Hartono. (©ULC)
