Green the Coast, Green the Nation with IKA-USU SUMUT
The Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., represented by the Secretary of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar M.Ked (OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R., gave a very high appreciation to IKA-USU SUMUT, who initiated the planting of 20,000 mangrove seedlings as a form of commitment to protect the earth and the environment so that it remains in balance.
USU PR — Realizing the planned activity (Jun. 11, 2024), IKA-USU SUMUT collaborated with the Universitas Sumatera Utara in community service to participate in planting 20,000 mangrove seedlings.
With the theme "Green the Coast, Green the Nation," this activity occurred on (Jun. 22, 2024), in Beras Basah Village, Pangkalan Susu District, Langkat Regency.

Yes, we appreciate the activities carried out by IKA-USU North Sumatra, which initiated the activities and is a form of commitment to protect the earth and the environment so that it remains in balance," said Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar M.Ked (OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R in his speech.
As a form of university appreciation, this activity was also attended by the Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., and the Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations of USU, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi.
In this activity, the university, IKA-USU SUMUT, also collaborated with many parties who were also present in this activity, namely KADIN Langkat, KADIN SUMUT, HIPMI Langkat Regency, BPDAS, and the Langkat Regency Secretary.
As the head of the committee, Ameilia Zuliyanti Siregar S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., hopes that other positive activities will be carried out as a form of concern for the community.
The Head of PUI Mangrove, Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., added that this activity is a form of international service where he hopes for the role of alumni and the real actions of alumni are seen for the wider community and said that it will target around 50,000 mangrove seedlings to be planted in the future, because planting mangroves is part of caring for the younger generation.
For information, there are two main commodities developed in Beras Basah Village: Plant Commodities found in mangroves and waters that produce fish. The second is Animal Commodities, namely the management of trigona SP livestock. The results of this will be empowered into superior products that will be created by the Universitas Sumatera Utara. These products are expected to be able to compete in the international arena.
