HUMAS USU – The field of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was filled with student enthusiasm on Friday (14/8/2026). The PKKMB x 74th USU Anniversary x Nescafe event created a unique atmosphere by combining student spirit, inspirational sharing sessions, and musical performances.
The event was part of a collaboration between Nescafe, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and PKKMB USU. Both new and current students took part in the event held at the USU FISIP field in Medan.
On the occasion, USU Vice Rector for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., encouraged students to make their university years a journey of discovering their potential, abilities, and future direction.
Prof. Poppy also encouraged students not to view university merely as a journey toward obtaining a degree.
“The university years should be used to gain knowledge, build capacity and character, develop competencies, expand networks, and improve communication and teamwork skills,” she said.
This message was in line with the spirit conveyed by Sarah Alifa, Regional Marketing Development Manager. Representing Nescafe Indonesia, Sarah encouraged students to be courageous in facing the various challenges that arise throughout their university journey.
During the talk show session, Zahid Ibrahim joined as a speaker to share his experiences and perspectives with USU students. He encouraged students never to underestimate themselves and not to hesitate to dream big.
“Never feel small, and never hesitate to have big dreams. Your regional background should not be a reason to limit your aspirations. No matter which regency or region you come from, we all have the same opportunity to grow and compete,” Zahid said.
Following the talk show, the atmosphere at the USU FISIP field became even livelier with a musical performance by Barasuara. In an interview with USU TV, Barasuara also encouraged students to continue learning and dare to innovate throughout their university years.
“Keep learning to innovate, because university is not easy. When we graduate, we must become people with integrity, whether in our work or in whatever we are doing,” Barasuara said.
Barasuara also shared their perspective on music as a space for expressing thoughts and ideas.
“Music is a place where we can express our thoughts. Especially when what we create can have an impact on other people’s lives, we think that is very meaningful,” they said.
The Nescafe x PKKMB USU 2026 series thus provided students with an opportunity to gain inspiration, enjoy entertainment, and begin their university journey with the courage to dream, try, innovate, and continue growing.
