Sekretaris Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., menghadiri Rapat Paripurna Istimewa Hari Jadi ke-78 Provinsi Sumatera Utara yang diselenggarakan di Gedung DPRD Sumatera Utara pada Rabu (15/04/2026).

HUMAS USU — The Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., attended the Special Plenary Session commemorating the 78th Anniversary of North Sumatra Province, held at the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Building on Wednesday (April 15, 2026).

Carrying the theme “One Collaboration, A Million Energies,” the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, S.E., M.M., in his speech invited all elements of society to actively contribute in generating limitless energy through collaborative efforts to accelerate the development of North Sumatra.

The Governor emphasized that through collaboration, vast potential from across North Sumatra can be mobilized to collectively build a region that is advanced, equitable, and sustainable.

“A single step of collaboration can mobilize millions of potentials—from the western coastline to the eastern shores, from the Bukit Barisan mountain range to the lowlands of Nias—to jointly build a region that is advanced, equitable, and sustainable,” he stated.

On the same occasion, the Governor also highlighted several development achievements in North Sumatra that continue to show positive progress.

One of the key achievements is the region’s economic growth, which reached 4.53 percent, making it the largest contributor to economic growth on the island of Sumatra.

In addition to these achievements, the Governor also addressed the challenges arising from the evolving dynamics of development.

He pointed out that one of the most pressing challenges is the increasing risk of hydrometeorological disasters, particularly floods and landslides that affected several areas in North Sumatra at the end of 2025.

“As development continues to evolve, the challenges we face will also become more complex. One of the real challenges is the increasing risk of hydrometeorological disasters,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., reaffirmed USU’s commitment to contributing to society through active collaboration with regional governments.

He also expressed hope that cooperation between USU and the North Sumatra Provincial Government will continue to grow, particularly in the field of research.

“We hope that this collaboration will continue and be further strengthened, especially in the field of research,” he concluded.
