USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2024 Promotes Prevention of Three Diseases in Asia
The Universitas Sumatera Utara SPIRIT Summer Course 2024 has been held from 2 to 17 September 2024 in a hybrid manner by the USU Faculty of Medicine through the Professional Doctor Education Program (P3D).
Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si. The Rector stated that the exchange of knowledge between developing countries, it is expected to produce an understanding, analysis, and formulation of physical activity and the right diet to anticipate the problem of triple burden disease. The Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, SpS (K), also provided his support so that this event ran smoothly.

The activity, which took the theme “Promoting Physical Activity And Diet In Combating Triple Burden Diseases In Asia: New Insight,” was fully supported and facilitated by USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si. The Rector stated that the exchange of knowledge between developing countries it is expected to produce an understanding, analysis, and formulation of physical activity and the right diet to anticipate the problem of triple burden disease. Universitas Sumatera Utara International USU SPIRIT Summer Course 2024, in collaboration with SPIRIT Project, is organized by focusing on understanding and analyzing physical activity, balanced nutrition, and other things that develop in sports. Course participants are expected to be more familiar with sports, especially traditional sports, understand proper nutrition for sports, and nutrigenomics in sports. The project emphasizes curriculum development, e-learning, and lifelong learning courses, with a focus on increasing physical activity, sports, and proper nutrition for youth. Top scientists in exercise science, nutrition, and neuro-behavior will mentor the course.
The Universitas Sumatera Utara SPIRIT Summer Course 2024 in collaboration with SPIRIT Project is the second summer course, after the first one in 2023. The committee chairman Prof. Dr. Dina Keumala Sari, M. Gizi, SpGK (K) delivered her report, that this activity was attended by 11 countries and 18 universities, with 51 student participants, consisting of 27 international participants, who took part in online and offline courses.
This activity invited 23 resource persons from Cyprus, Spain, Finland, Turkey, Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. The presence of international resource persons is more diverse than last year and is expected to be sustainable for the following years.
