FAHUTAN PR - The Faculty of Forestry of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a workshop with the theme “Development of the World Bamboo Collection Park on Campus 2 USU” as well as officially opening the 10th Anniversary of the Faculty of Forestry and the 25th Anniversary of the Forestry Study Program on Wednesday, (16/10/2024) at the Faculty of Forestry USU Bekala. The event was opened by USU Vice Rector II, Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP., and attended by academics, as well as environmental activists from various organizations.

The workshop focused on the presentation of the plan to build the World Bamboo Collection Park on USU Campus 2, which is expected to become a center for conservation, education, and research on various bamboo species. In addition, the event also discussed park design, bamboo development policies, and governance, the benefits of bamboo in soil and water conservation, the utilization of bamboo from upstream to downstream, and the benefits of bamboo parks for various elements of society, both students and local residents.

The construction of the World Bamboo Collection Park is an important initiative of the USU Faculty of Forestry to strengthen environmental conservation efforts while adding to the botanical collection on campus. In addition, this workshop is part of the Faculty of Forestry's anniversary series of events. The workshop was attended by Vice Rector II of USU Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S. Sos., M.SP., Dean of the Faculty of Forestry of USU Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., as well as invited guests consisting of environmental activists, students, lecturers, employees of the Faculty of Forestry and representatives from various conservation institutions. The event took place at the Faculty of Forestry located in Kwala Bekala, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra

The event began with the opening by the MC, followed by singing the Indonesia Raya song and Mars Rimbawan, followed by reading the Prayer by Moehar Maraghiy Harahap, S.Hut., M.Sc., Malay Dance performance by the Forestry Dance Team, Remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry by Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., Remarks by the Vice Rector II of USU as well as Opening the Anniversary Agenda of the Faculty of Forestry by Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S. Sos, M.SP., Submission of Certificates and Souvenirs to the speakers, Discussion, Reading of Recommendations for the Development of the World Bamboo Collection Park on Campus 2 USU and Signing of Declarations and Commitments of the Parties in the Context of the Development of the World Bamboo Collection Park by Dr. Oding Affandi, S.Hut., MP., Closing and Break, and the last event was the Launching of KBR Bamboo in the Arboretum by Dr. Oding Affandi, S.Hut., MP. The speakers who attended were:

1. Dr. Ar. Ahmad Delianur Nasution, ST, MT, GP, IAI (Vice Chairman of PUIPTBambu) presented the material entitled “Designing the World Bamboo Collection Park at Campus 2 USU Bekala.”

2. Dr. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si (Head of the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Science and Technology (PUIPT)-Bamboo) presented the material “PUI-PT Bamboo Roadmap and Development Plan.”

3. Dr. Desi Ekawati, S.Hut., M.Si (National Coordinator-Forest Program, MoEF) presented the material “Policy and Governance of Bamboo Development.”

4. Sigit Budi Nugroho, S.Si., M.Sc (Head of BPDAS Wampu-Sei Ular) presented the material “The Role of Bamboo Development in the Framework of Soil and Water Conservation and Disaster Mitigation.”

5. Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto, S.Hut., M.Si (Professor of the Faculty of Forestry USU) presented the material “Utilization of Bamboo from Upstream to Downstream.”

With this workshop, the Faculty of Forestry USU hopes to realize the World Bamboo Collection Park which functions as a center for research, education and environmental conservation. This park is also expected to become a new attraction for the USU Faculty of Forestry, and provide benefits to the wider community in supporting sustainable environmental programs.
